Below we have many conversation about the new firmware release for the IC-7100. The below is NOT a step-by-step, however discussion by 20 about the upgrade process.
Start off by making notes from :
- Go to SET>OTHERS>INFORMATION>VERSION. This will show the all the build levels for the CPU and DSP.
- Did you also do a full back up to the SD card?
- Backup 1st
- Read all first before starting.
To view version information:
SET, OTHERS, INFORMATION, VERSION
Set is the button on the control head, rest of choices are screen selections after scrolling to view options, touch screen to select choice and go deeper into menu.
Both CPU and DSP version numbers are displayed.
The update resets the radio and wiped the memories. I had backed up memories and settings to RT Systems.
But now, when I try to restore from the software, the radio gives 'Clone Error' and the RT Systems data is not transferred. I am not alone, someone I know has exactly the same issue. Anyone else found this?
Yes Bruce I did. I was merely illustrating that, unlike previous firmware updates, I encountered an issue with RT Systems method of restore. Actually, I figured out how to overcome that now anyway. Seems to be something to do with band edge frequencies in European IC-7100s. You guys in NA won't get the problem, I believe.
We have been in contact with RT Systems today regarding the cloning error that follows the firmware upgrade. To their credit they have immediately released an update to the Programmer. This is their message:
There is a new update for the IC-7100 Programmer to correct a problem with the latest firmware update.
To get the latest update click on Check For Updates in the Help menu.
Once you get the latest update you will need to do Communciation | Get Data From Radio so the software will know about the firmware update in the radio. Then you will be able to send your existing files to the radio.
The download web site indicates what has been changed/added to the firmware.

From what I understand with this firmware update, Icom has changed the format for saving/loading settings... both on the SD Card and via a computer connection in order to take care of the new options that this update brings with it.
Icom has a brand new update to the CS-7100 software (same date as the E4 firmware update) which I presume will be able to handle the new format.
Hopefully RT Systems gets an update for their software to take care of firmware updated IC-7100 radios.
Open up your old backup and open up a new, empty freq list. Copy/paste each bank into the new list as well as other settings. Save the new file and upload the new file to the radio.

All it says is “CI-V commands for antenna control, logging software and RIT have been added.”

CI-V commands for antenna control, logging software and RIT have been added.
Refer to IC-7100 Firmware update information— Release E4 for details.

by installing of E4 no problems, but its absolute neccesary to save the File on SD Card !!!
after update to E4 all settings and programming places are lost.
So after installing E4 you have to load all settings from sd card.
From PC you have to update CS7100 to version 1.10 ( its available from
Icom Website) before you are able to clone(save/read) files with E4
updated devices of 7100.
step 1.) save file (all) to sd card in your IC 7100
step 2.) update Firmware to E4 as describet in update Manual
step 3.) after successfull update load file (all) from sd card to get your programming back
step 4.) update your CS7100 Software to Version 1.10 from Wesite Icom
step 5.) read your file in CS7100 Software without problems.

The latest firmware has all of the updates, no need to install them one by one. You need a PC to run the install program. Be sure to backup all settings and memories before the update. Install the Icom USB drivers before plugging in the USB cable then allow the Windows installer to finish the driver install when you plug the USB cable in with the unit turned on.
